New Pads Debut Thursday, and What If the Habs Didn’t Draft Carey?

Pictures of the new pads surfaced today!

Carey's Breast Cancer Awareness Month Pads
These pads, along with the special new mask we unveiled last week, will be worn throughout the month of October to raise awareness for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. After the month ends, the mask will be auctioned off to benefit the CBCF - you can see that listing here: CAREY PRICE GAME USED MONTREAL CANADIENS MASK With the mask not having even been seen by the general public yet, the auction is already at over $4000 with nearly 9000 views!
On a different note….
Yesterday I encountered a comment that left me scratching my head. I understand that not everybody is a huge Carey Price fan, but I just don’t understand how in the year 2011 people are still questioning the Montreal Canadiens’ selection of Price in the first round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. This is the comment in question:
“But, since you brought it up, I do continue to believe that Gainey should not have drafted a goalie 5th overall. He could have taken Bryzkalov off waivers from Anaheim a couple of years later. He could have signed Thomas as a free agent. He could have kept Halak. Goaltenders become available far more often than a #1 centre or stud defenseman.
I wrote a response to this comment, which can be read here: Should the Canadiens Have Drafted Carey Price?
Please share your thoughts in the comments area!
See you on Thursday for the home opener!
First Look: Carey’s New Mask and Pads!
Posted on 6 October 2011 | 5 responses
Carey’s mask artist David Arrigo has posted up some photos on his website of the mask that Carey will wear during the month of October. Last night it was revealed that Carey will wear pink-trimmed pads in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the mask fits in very nicely with that!
Here are the pictures of the new mask!

To help raise funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, the mask will be auctioned off with 100% of the proceeds going to the CBCF, the leading national volunteer-based organization in Canada dedicated to creating a future without breast cancer. Goalie Gear Changes

As you all may have noticed from the pre-season action, Carey has changed from Vaughn pads to RBK for this season. Here’s a photo (courtesy of Hockey Inside/Out) of his new gear:

And today it was announced that Carey will be joining Under Armour’s stable of elite professional athletes as a partner. The roster of athletes promoting Under Armour includes New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and UFC superstar Georges St. Pierre. There’s already some promo photos surfacing, including this one:

As mentioned in a previous post, there is still one more significant change to come….a new mask!
*Update* The Globe and Mail has a story about Carey’s new sponsorship deal here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/globe-on-hockey/carey-price-ready-for-his-close-up/article2182328/
Pressure Still There, But Price Has More Slack
Posted on 23 September 2011 | No responses
An excellent article on NHL.com today about Carey and his first pre-season game, written by Arpon Basu – here is an excerpt:
But while the context is different, Price still has a good degree of pressure on his 24-year-old shoulders entering this season.
The Canadiens’ chances for success are dependent on Price at least coming close to replicating last season, when he had 38 wins, a 2.35 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage in 72 games. His numbers improved in the playoffs, with a 2.11 GAA and .934 save percentage in Montreal’s seven-game first-round loss to the Bruins.
Then there is Price’s contract status, as he will become a restricted free agent July 1, 2012, something he admits is on his mind as the season begins.
“Everybody’s going to think about it. Every player wants to sign another contract,” Price said. “So this is obviously a big year for me and I want to have another successful year like last year. I want to do everything I did last year, and I want to do more.”

Carey Price Finally Feeling at Home
Posted on 20 September 2011 | No responses
There’s a nice feature on Carey in today’s issue of the Globe and Mail. As we prepare for the first appearance of the 2011-12 Canadiens, this makes for some good reading. Here’s an excerpt:
It seems almost inconceivable that Price, who has both inspired and endured the full gamut of emotions in his 232 NHL games, is still just 24.
He seems a long way removed from the famous “chill out” moment last fall – where Price took on his Bell Centre boo-birds – which teammates call a pivot point in his maturation as a pro.
In the intervening months, the Habs have become Price’s team. That’s not to say there are no subplots this season.
Price is in the last year of a contract that will pay him $3-million (U.S.) in 2011-12, a relative bargain.
Like other Habs in contract years – forwards Andrei Kostitsyn and Mathieu Darche, defencemen Josh Gorges, Jaroslav Spacek and Hal Gill – Price has arrived at camp focused and determined to get off to a fast start.
“I want to do everything I did last year and I want to do more,” he said.
